Fox Gordon Princess Fiano 2012

RRP: $19.95

ABV: 13%

Region: Adelaide Hills, SA

Owned by Rachel Atkins and Natasha Mooney, the latest releases of Fox Gordon wines from South Australia came complete with a fashion-inspired ‘look book’ – cute. The family owned business between friends names several of its wines after their children – including Hannah, Louis, George, Abby and Sarah (Sassy). This Princess Fiano (a southern Italian grape variety) is a tribute to the ladies. But unlike some ‘Princesses’, there’s nothing too precious or unapproachable here. A zesty nose full of citrus goodness with hints of herbs, it’s juicy and clean with touches of spice. Crisp but also with some good depth and a lovely, rounded wine – perfect for seafood. Bellisimo ladies!

Chrismont La Zona King Valley Arneis 2012

RRP: $22

ABV: 12.5%

Region: King Valley, NE Victoria

Chrismont made their first Arneis wine in 2006 – an Italian variety which means ‘little rascal’, given the fact it’s a rather tricky number in the vineyard. Here is a beautifully perfumed wine with florals and apples leading to a crisp wine with refreshing acidity, a robust texture and a long finish. – Katrina.

Kangarilla Road Black St Peters Zinfandel 2010

Deen De Bortoli Vat 4 Petit Verdot 2009

RRP: $12.90

ABV: 14.5%

De Bortoli’s very affordable range, the Deen Vat Series, is named after De Bortoli founder, Deen De Bortoli. For great value stylish sipping, this Petit Verdot really packs a (pleasant!) punch. Beautiful perfumed nose with fresh blueberries, plums and violets. Layers of lingering, balanced flavour. De Bortoli suggests trying with quail, veal or smoked meats. We also enjoyed the Deen Vat 8 Shiraz 2009 (also $12.90).  - Katrina

Pertaringa Tin Man Tempranillo Graciano Garnacha 2010

RRP: $20

ABV: 13%

Region: Adelaide Hills, South Australia

Likely to find this: winery direct and online

This trio of Spanish grape varieties are thriving in suitable soils in the Adelaide Hills region overseen by winemaker Shane Harris and viticulturalist, Richard Leask.  Matured for 12 months in ‘tin man’ tanks, this wine has seen zero time in oak. There’s nothing ‘squeaky’ about this ‘Tin Man’, with fresh berry flavours, some meaty, savoury, pepper and spice character with a zippy acid backbone and a spicy, lingering finish. Made to be enjoyed now. – Katrina.
